UAS training on Catalina Island for USC’s Spatial Sciences Institute

October 3rd, 2023 - GeoAcuity team members Will Forker and Emily Wulf traveled to the USC Wrigley Institute for Environment and Sustainability on Catalina Island to assist USC Spatial Sciences Institute's graduate course SSCI578 Spatial Data Acquisition, taught by Dr. Laura Loyola. USCSSI’s rotary wing platforms were utilized to collect data of the WMSC campus for students to use in their research projects. During the visit, the GeoAcuity team delivered a comprehensive demonstration of a UAS-based geospatial data collection workflow covering mission planning, data processing, and dissemination. On the same day, the captured drone imagery of the WMSC campus was distributed to students and added to the Open GeoData Hub, which GeoAcuity helps curate for USC SSI.
