GeoAcuity and USC ICT Create Digital Twin of Exposition Park in Los Angeles

In August 2023, the GeoAcuity team, featuring Jason Knowles and Will Forker, collaborated with Luis Leal and Mony Sea from the USC Institute for Creative Technologies for a special project at Exposition Park in Los Angeles, CA.

Our mission: to obtain high-resolution drone imagery of the entire campus, including iconic stadiums (Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, BMO Stadium), four renowned museums (California Science Center, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, California African American Museum, and the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art), and the historic Space Shuttle Endeavor exhibit.

Tackling such a vast area, we deployed an array of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), utilizing both fixed-wing (AgEagle Aerial Systems Inc. eBee) and rotary-wing (Skydio, Parrot) drones.

The result? An impressive three-centimeter resolution dataset that enabled us to craft a comprehensive 3D model, or "Digital Twin," of the entire campus. This highly detailed model now serves as a crucial tool for Public Safety officials to perform thorough vulnerability assessments and enhance safety training protocols.

Merging imagery from multiple sensors and platforms to create a unified 3D Model is a complex challenge, yet it's one that the teams at USCICT and GeoAcuity routinely accomplish. Curious about our process? Reach out and ask us how!
